John Anthony Garcia was born on April 26, 1931 in Harlingen, Cameron County, Texas. He was adopted by Jose Alejanadro Antonio "Alex" Garcia and Bertha Champion Garcia. On 27 December 1955 in Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas he married 1st Elizabeth "Betty" Ella Hardee, daughter of Noble Hardee and Julia Smith Hardee. He married 2nd Sylvia.

John Anthony Garcia, 63, of Brownsville, died Jan. 5, 1995, at his residence. A native of Harlingen, Garcia had lived in Brownsville most of his life. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was an educator for 21 years, having taught at Brownsville High school, Gladys Porter and Simon Rivera High School. He also coached American football at Monterrey Tech for three years. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Alejandro Garcia.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia P. Garcia of Brownsville; three sons, John A. Garcia Jr. and Omar Zamora both of Brownsville and Ray Zamora of College
Station; four daughters, Lissette A. Garcia of Brownsville, Julie Garcia of Port Isabel, Vicky Newton of Youngsville, La., and Lisa Susan Mire of Morgan City, La.; his mother, Bertha Champion Garcia of Brownsville; a brother, J.A. Garcia of Raymondville; two sisters, Margaret Isabel Burns of Raymondville and Mary Bertha Mallet of McAllen; seven grandchildren; several uncles, aunts,
nieces and nephews.
A rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Luke Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at St. Luke Catholic Church with interment at Buena Vista Burial Park. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Veterans Funeral Detail.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Martin Garcia, Miguel Garcia, Charles Burns, Omar Garcia, Richard Bruce, Juan Urbano, Richard Ghionzoli and William Mallet.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Garcia Jr., J.A. Garcia, J. Alex Garcia, Ray Zamora, Omar Zamora and George Borrego.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd.
